2015 was probably the busiest of my career, during the course of the year i lived many hours of flights and delays at airports, stayed at hotels with wonderful views immersed in nature and others, on the contrary, very urban. i must admit that many of these scenarios were the kick start of the creative process of oscillators ep. this is an ep conceived strictly for the dancefloor, and its creation was a perfect combination between air and land, as all the tracks began on a plane and were developed on land. a very important part of the creative process when youre working on a track is the mood youre in, and there is always an extra excitement before, during and after each show, the space where you work. i take advantage of that moments and translate those feelings into music. - flug

a proper compilation including the future sound of argentina coming right from the center of the republic. crudeza cordobesa is a statement that togetherness is needed to make a musical scene alive ! eight tracks from different interpreters of the south american mood and groove to the world.

the aim of �métamorphose� is to offer a voyage to the listener. the pieces really often start quite dark and then the mood turns into something intimate to catch the audience from the deeper spheres. sometimes it goes the other way as well: the track starts in a happy way and turns into a deeper vibe. by doing so the listener should notice his own feelings and try to completely let himself go. further he should be aware of his emotions: on the one hand the happy and melancholic and on the other hand the dark and rather monotonous side. in addition to the musical part to each track there is a specific artwork which was made while listening to the tracks and is based on the emotional expressions which were triggered by the sounds.

for the second bad barbie records vinyl release of 2016 we are more than exited to bring you the magnificent work from the bla bla music owner daniel sanchez with his impromptu ep. here we have four amazing pieces where each one tells a different history. the first one pearled into droplets saw the light after a great live jam and the result is combination of several layers of base elements with subtle minimalistic articulations. these, in combination of the bass and synths lines do create a truly amazing micro house piece. the second one vague, is an atmospheric dub were a single synth chord raises in slowly, followed by a very subtle kick and bass line to set a bit of rhythm to the whole thing, creating a superb dreamy vibe while the chords do their thing with delicate reverbs and delays in the backend. a great musical piece indeed. for the third track we have yi, again another amazing micro house jewel born from a live jam, but this one is even more energetic than the first one and it also includes, besides a rocking bass line, analog synth chords that lifts up the mood during specific moments, which also do their part articulating themselves perfectly with some occasional twisted vocals that helps create an amazing party vibe from beginning to end. and if this wasn t enough we also have bedroom stories vocal tool that daniel included with his delivery, which can help spice up a dj set with ease.

keeping with the rough release rate of an album every couple of years, prime numbers label boss trus me is back with his fourth full length, planet 4. featuring nine cuts of intergalactic techno and once again marking a considerable sonic evolution for this acclaimed uk artist. never one to do the same trick twice, david james wolstencroft uses his latest album as a vehicle for his own interest in deep space, physics and dark matter. it is those subjects that have occupied his mind in recent years, and those subjects that inform this brilliantly otherworldly album. where previous lps have variously been funk and soul heavy, or openly analogue and physical, this one is a more subtle and supple techno affair that is as cerebral as it is seductive. starting with a monologue that suggests that man has already landed on mars, 1979 is a cut that immediately places you somewhere in orbit. spooky synths and sci-fi sounds are eerie and atmospheric and very much set a perfect tone. from there, there is slow, elastic and unsettling mood music on the unexplained , deep and insular techno on dark flow and trippy dan bell style minimalism on ring round heart . the second half of the lp touches on chunky dub, manic and melodic grooves. this is a coherent statement that holds together conceptually and musically. as well as providing plenty of dynamite for the more discerning dance floor, planet 4 is also a delightfully detailed affair that will work just as well on headphones late at night.

bass culture reach that magnificent milestone of 50 releases with an extra special ep from someone who has become part of labels inner circle, the infallible mr g. set up in 2009 by paris stalwart djulz, bass culture records has maintained a consistently high level of music, crossing from techno into house and back again, always with a focus on quality over quantity. mr g delivers two special gems from his arsenal of weaponary to mark the 50th bsss culture release. the first, * transient* sees mr g in contemplative mood, taking a studied approach with this deep, soulful cut. softened pads are drizzled over a punchy low end, with tough, crisp beats supporting a stirring vocal which urges everybody to get up on their feet. the nineties organ lick gives it an almost sorrowful feel, and those pads continue to takes us up to the skies. a beauty. on the flip, * crumple zone* goes straight for the jugular with a driving b-line, alarming stabs and finger-clicking percussion to get that head nodding. combined with garbled, hypnotic vocal clips, its a mesmerising, eyes down cut for the late night heads. towards the latter part of the track, a naughty riff comes in and adds another layer of sleaze to proceedings. and there you have it, mr g proves yet again why he is such a all-round don and bass culture celebrates 50 releases with panache.

mugwumps subfield label introduces its first signings with the belgian-italo duo front de cadeaux (brilliantly named after the belgian ebm pioneer group front 242). front de cadeaux are dj athome & dj hugosan. hugo runs the roccodisco label with italian disco mastermind rodion (gomma/nein) while belgian killer dj athome has been spinning italo wave & house in brussels since the 90 s. they expertly produced their own brand of supreme rallentato, which is a fucked-up slo-mo italo, acid, disco, techno and house hybrid that so rightly fits with subfield s mission statement of covering subgenres. their 2 first outings on roccodisco have been remixed by fabrizio mammarella and optimos jd twitch, and a staple in ivan smagghes sets. this full ep on subfield features 2 original f2c obscene & dirty slo-mo tracks at their most playful, ouvre ta bouche and front de cadeaux theme plus the magnificent dub-house of killers. remixes comes courtesy of factory floor s gabe gurnsey (dfa) in a quite brutal bleep-techno mood and manchester s nu-balearic kingpin ruf dug (music for dreams), getting into what he described as a 808 snare roll warehouse analog fucked-up version.

invite�s choice records continues on the path chosen with a 3-track vinyl release which showcases some new and well-established names. hertz collision has the honour of being chosen to be the only artist showcasing a track on the a-side. this eerie, melodic track sets quite a special mood for the ep to start with. the b-side is opened by wrong assessment with a track that�s focussed on the low-end. this synth-driven track fits well in the mood set on the a-side, but continues with a heavier drive. the droning kick draws you in and makes you want to go dance the day away in smoke-filled rooms. savas pascalidis finishes the ep off with a banger true to his own style that relies on the drummachine for�s swing. this oldschool, loopy techno banger closes another outstanding ep by invite�s choice records.

luke hess and dj richard remix sides a and b of drone 005 for the sixth release from drone. luke hess takes overview effect, richard fearless dubbed out, detroit techno fused title track, and transposes its mood, breaking out the 303 and sampling the original strings to add an element of dazed hallucination for this peak time acid track. dj richard brings crafted electro rhythms and swelling, dubbed out horns to his remix of metal dub, completely reimagining the stripped-down, metallic techno of the original

for the 5th installment in the prrukwht series, spanish hardware icon eduardo de la calle returns to planet rhythm with his adept to the light ep. tr3b conspiracy serves as the opener which combines odd rhythmic arps and subtly placed drum sequences to make a somewhat uncanny atmosphere. on the b side we find ranchor will cut the mood which is a repetitive techno cut that should be useful for after hours. the doubt of the unknown (b2) has a somewhat foreboding title. it�s a fx heavy synth jam that uses oddball synthesis and nicely placed fx chains that evolve throughout.

seems like somethings going on across the pond at the moment with seemingly blossoming, or at least rejuvenated scenes in the united states and canada. our last handful of releases on freerange have included artists from montreal, tujuana, pittsburgh and chicago and were about to add los angeles to the list with this new one from justin jay and ulf bonde. the young producers have been steadily building steam with a number of fine releases the last couple of years and we welcome them to freerange for their debut ep entitled indecision. the title track sets the mood with a low-slung, super-deep house groove complete with an intimate vocal and a charming simplicity which contributes to the powerful end result. elements come into focus then disappear in a fog of reverb whilst playful guitar picks add a live jammed feel to the loping groove giving things a bob moses/francis harris kind of vibe

uk techno veteran broom is one of the most consistent producers in the game and on neon, he delivers four killer dance floor tracks. inspired in equal parts by the swirling, dub techno of chain reaction and the insistent, loopy techno of mid to late-90s jeff mills, the release starts with the steel-plate percussion and churning chord builds of -m19-. broom keeps his focus on that approach for -energy-, where doubled-up claps and clanging chords create an eerie but urgent sensibility, while the title track is a slightly less visceral affair thanks to the inclusion of a sleepy vocal sample amid the churning keys. finally, -involver- sees broom focus his energies elsewhere, its acidic, grimy groove coming across like steve bicknell in a bad mood.

red ember records is still legendary in certain circles despite shutting up shop 15 years ago. after some time out of the public eye, though, ewan jansen himself is still very much in business, and here he is with four brand new cuts on his debut for chez damier�s inner balance label. after the appropriately pastoral intro to �harvest� we dive headlong into a flurry of vibrant, detroit-influenced programming of the kind kept alive all these years by rei loci and kirk degiorgio. �sines of life� takes a well-earned breather on the flip, its laid-back setting and all-enveloping bass a massage for the weary body and soul. finally the mood turns playful on �square dance�, the chopped, breaksy and off-key groove completely at home alongside uk technicians norken, herbert and ben nevile. it�s rare for people to stay on their game for this long but, as this ep aptly demonstrates, ewan jansen is no ordinary musician.

ashworth concentrates on the essence of solid techno in his first full ep for made of concrete. inspired by the main component of concrete itself, the material is intitled �portland� and consists of no less than four original tracks. �world� makes for a gentle introduction by opening with a soft melodic lead, swiftly changing the tempo after a few measures. we�re quickly immersed in a syncopated bassline peppered with whirring synths that harmonise with full scale piano cuts, the most intriguing earworm on the entire cut. on �launch� the producer lays down hard hitting techno drums from the get-go, setting the foundation for a tense atmosphere. ashworth�s signature move quickly ensues, as he manages to inject emotion through synths and piano pads into an otherwise tense and anxiety-ridden ambiance. toning down the graveness of the previous tracks� mood, �mineral� reveals a surrendering groove, with a stripped down, minimalist approach, where the melody is assembled with the help of industrial elements, emotive bleeps and electric glitches. ashworth�s experimental edge is evident in the final track �scatter� - the sub bass lead creates a morose atmosphere paired with low-key synths and mechanical loops. while the first two tracks showcase ashworth�s ability to instill life into solemn techno soundscapes, the second half of the ep successfully exhibits his edgy experimental side, adding up to a heterogenous release.

much-celebrated kompakt staple the field returns to the spotlight with new album the follower, his fifth full-length offering after from here we go sublime (kompakt rsd 02 cd 57), yesterday and today (kompakt 193 cd 72), looping state of mind (kompakt 241 cd 94) and cupids head (kompakt 290 cd 110). swedish soundsmith axel willner is well-known for his mastery when it comes to the allusive layering of loops, but it was with his last album cupids head that a newly-found, somewhat pressing snappishness started to replace the soft-hued sonics of his ambient-infused techno, imbued with a darker mood and stronger footing than before. a carefully gauged balance of stoic motorik and gloomy drones was key here - just as it is for the follower which goes even further in blurring the lines between concrete experimentation, body music and precisely laid-out arrangement, leading to one of the most rhythmically and texturally engaging listening experiences in willners catalogue.
